Coming from Hawaii, I was born and raised in a small town. For me, I didn't do a campus tour before I came to Woodbury. I was taken aback. It was a pretty small campus but it was beautiful.
I didn't feel like I was in Los Angeles because of all the greenery. The atmosphere just felt like I was pretty much back home. And being from Hawaii, born and raised, I feel like I belonged here.
I was pretty shy my first semester, keeping to myself, getting my work done. It wasn't until living in the residence halls, I had an RA that would always knock on my door, check up on me. He always brought me down to student events just so that I felt more involved.
It really did help me, especially being an out-of-state student. Yes, I felt at home, but at the same time, I still felt out of place. And that RA, he really helped me basically break that barrier for me.
My name is Bennet Cariaga. I just graduated and I'm from Wahiawa, Hawaii.
